DEAR MUTHUH

Dear Muthuh,

In your first Email back to me months ago you commented that, by living in Anderson, SC, we are in a great location for riding. Well you're absolutely correct. On May 14th just two weeks ago Lori (B.T.) and I took a one-day ride up through the foothills of SC into Western NC and home. Not trying to brag, but we're allowed to do lots of these rides due to my 12-hour work schedule and having two days off every two days.

We left Anderson around 10:30 on hwy 28 through Walhalla, SC and stopped first in Highlands, NC at a barbecue restaurant named “Rib Country”. The waitress on duty was Cindy (pic#01). She saw us pull in and hopped out to greet us, and let us know that we were riding her bike. HUH! She and her husband own a “Dresser” like ours. So naturally we all hit it off perfect. The restaurant is very nice and clean with a good menu selection including a barbecue plate that was so good it almost gave me an “organism” (I spell it wrong on purpose hehehe). Cost was about $7. Only negative is that Highlands is in one of NC's “Dry” counties. But Cindy, being the “Harley Chick” she is, was quick to let me know that “Brown Bagging” is allowed. I made a note of this. Cashiers, NC also has a neat and tasty little barbecue place named “Smokehouse”. I'll plug it better for you on another trip.

(Pic#02) is one of my favorite signs. It lets me know the day is getting better, unless of course you get behind one of those trucks. But he pulled off quickly and let us motor by (must have been a biker too). Approaching Franklin, NC we headed west on hwy 64 a few miles and turned right to catch “Wayah Rd.” #1442. There's a big green sign for Wayah Bald at the turn. The blurry orange sign in (pic #03) immediately disappointed us. The sign reads, “Expect delays up to 30 minutes.” So much for what was to be a picturesque ride along a favorite route and the picture of a long and beautiful waterfall to show you.

After discussing strategy we headed towards Waynesville, NC on hwy 23. We jumped on the Blue Ridge Parkway west of Waynesville and headed north. Had to stop for Lori's jacket. Gets cooler up there. So that's what was poking me in the back hehehe. (Pic#04) is Lori at another of my favorite signs (remember I'm an old pervert). We hopped off the Pkwy on hwy 215 south towards Rosman, NC, which is nice and curvy at times. At the end of 215 we turn left then a quick right into Rosman on hwy178, which we will follow all the way home. But first we make a stop at an upstate SC landmark on the right of 178 just a few miles before crossing hwy 11.

Unfortunately they were not open yet but it's “Bob's Place”(Pics#05-09) (a.k.a. Scatterbrains, The Chicken Coop, Hillbilly Heaven). This place was featured in “Time Magazine” early in 2001. The nickname “Scatterbrains” has something to do with a long past incident of buckshot to the head. But don't let that scare you. Mrs. Romaine runs this establishment with her sons, and they are very nice people who are proud of their “Hillbilly Heritage”. But don't go there starting any crap or it'll get another nickname like “Muthuh'sbrains”. Only kidding, I know you're just a sheep in big-ole wolf's clothing Mr. Muthuh hehehe. I nicknamed it “The Chicken Coop” because a local “Yard Buzzard” is subject to stroll by you while you're sitting there sipping a cold one. For a southern definition of yard buzzard check out (Pic#07), and you'll see one strolling around the “Road Kill Grill” where she'll be on the menu tonight if she doesn't keep her ass out of the road. Only comment for (Pic#08) is “Damn Straight”.

There's a “Hillbilly Poem” on the wall in (Pic#09), but I was distracted by the picture beside it and didn't get the poem close enough. It reads, “There's a place on this earth my people call home, there's hills and hollows everywhere with lots of room to roam. We're noted for our hard times and God's great creation. We're the people of the Hillbilly Nation.” (Pic#10) is yours truly. And if anybody laughs at my “Zip-off-into-shorts-or-swim-trunks-plenty-of-pockets-Walmart-$19.95-pants” then (Pic#11) is just for you hehehe.

Later Dude, Dandy Dan

P.S. I recognized “Karen from Anderson” in your pics from bike week. (Myrtle Beach 2002 in the Archives) I gotta find this “Jeff” guy and have a chat with him. He could have had her for a “Backrest” for the 260-mile ride, and he opted to trailer her instead? Oh well, she must have demanded the trailer 'cause it couldn't have been his idea right? Anyway, I don't actually know her but saw her behind a bar about a month ago on a local poker run. She caused me to get a freshly opened cold beer slapped out of my hand. Well, uh, maybe, uh it kina sorta, uh, had something to do with Lori hearing the comment I made about Karen's “Tits”, oops, I mean “Tats”. But I got the last laugh from our friends because, by spilling my beer, Lori caused me to go back and see Karen for another one hehehe. No offense Jeff. You're a fellow Biker. Your babe is sacred territory around us.

Dandy Dan...

I may be wrong, but I kinda got the impression that "Tats" was just along for the ride in Myrtle Beach... Go on back and tell her Muthuh says hey...and, uhhh, just where is this bar she works at?
