hangin it up...

Muthuh,

I just read your article about giving up riding on your own terms. I’m sorry that I was never able to meet up with you on the road, on two wheels. We’re about the same age, so I know where you’re coming from, although you’ve ridden a lot more than me.

Ever since I stumbled onto your site a couple of years ago, I’ve loved your style of writing. Also, because of you, I was able to meet Blain and Janet when they rode through Iowa. I’m still hopeful of doing an Alaska trip, among others. Just not sure if the old body will last long enough!

You mentioned about doing a couple of departing rides this summer. Drop me a note if you would happen to run through Iowa. It would be a privilege to ride with you for a few miles.

Take care and enjoy your “retirement”

I’ll keep my eyes open for convertibles!

Walt

Heya Walt…as fortune would have it, we’re hauling ass to Des Moines on Interstates and “starting” our trip from there, hopping off on backroads to Sturgis, further on to Yellowstone and back to NC in the first 3 weeks of August… perhaps we can hook up for part of that. Our plan is to crash in Davenport August 2nd, and on Aug 3rd get up early and ride I-80 to west DesMoines…getting off on hwy 6 at Clive, IA and riding 6 a ways then up to 44 for most of the way to Onawa IA for that night at the KOA there. I dunno why my riding buddy wanted to do Hwy 6 west from Clive, but seeing as how you’re up that way maybe you can suggest a nice route west from DesMoines. Check the prelim stuff at www.muthuh.com/trip.shtml

Good to hear from ya – hope we can find time for a beer or three….

Muthuh

Muthuh,

I just reread this and have got one suggestion. Unless there is something your buddy wants to see on that short stretch of 6 (that part is a real PITA with cagers), you would be better off cutting North off I80/35 where it turns south on the NW corner of Des Moines. That is HWY 141. Go a couple of miles North to the town of Grimes, which is HWY 44. I enclosed a jpg of that section.

I’ll send you a note when the time gets closer about meeting up with you. There’s a good little BBQ and beer joint in Panora that might work out good for a stop.

See ya

Walt
